Q: In regards to the STEMCRaFT what is meant by an enclosed capsule?
A: A compact sealed and detachable container or compartment. It needs to be an enclosed unit (capsule) that is independent of the rocket’s airframe. Pressure relief holes are exempt from the enclosed requirement as some instrumentation requires access to the atmosphere.
Q: What radio modes can we transmit our data using?
A: A NASA receiver shall be provided that can receive both APRS and FM Simplex voice transmissions. Teams using other modes are permitted to do so provided they utilize their own receiver equipment including an antenna that shall not exceed 10 feet in height. Teams shall declare by March 17 what mode they are using along with the frequency. NASA will provide the frequencies to be used for APRS (144.390) and FM Simplex voice (146.40-146.58, 147.420-147.57).
Q: Do teams launching at home or using a transmission mode other than APRS or voice need to use the FTM 300-DR?
A: No, however, the transmissions must take place on the 2-M band.
